Who Did You Watch Grow Up on a Soap Opera?

Soap Opera:  All My Children

Actress:  Susan Lucci

There have been many child actors who have made their way through the virtual towns of the soap opera world and many we have literally watched grow up in front of our eyes.  Susan Lucci began her role as the teenage Erica Kane on All My Children in 1970.  Through the next four-plus decades, we watched Erica grow up, go through every trial and tribulation imaginable, have and have an infamous string of husbands. After over 40 years onscreen, we watched Erica become an exciting mature character who has shown being over 50 can be very exciting, rewarding, and relevant.

  2. Starr Manning and Robin Scorpio and for that matter Todd Manning(roger howarth) and blair cramer who were both very young when they came on the scene in the early 1990's. roger howarth and kassie depaiva are now exciting mature actors who have brought that to their characters.

  3. Kimberly McCullough, from day one, she has been a delight and wonderful to see grown up. Also Tad on AMC, I remember him as a teen and getting involved with the wrong people, then he turned into a constand, veteran character, sort of taking over the reins of his father as the patriart (sp) of the show.

  6. I got into OLTL's Brandon Buddy and Trevor St. John through the online SOLE clips that showed the evolution of their relationship after "Todd" found Starr and Cole in bed together. And this was before he was found out to be "special" in regards to his mind and his impulse control. It was easy for me to think of him as a bad tempered monster, esp. when it turned out that Susan Haskell's "Marty" was going to run away with Todd and raise Starr's baby as their own (while letting Starr believe that her child was dead) and with Marty not knowing everything about her past. And Brandon really nailed it as the son of Marty and Patrick Thornhart, who might as well have been the original Star X'd Lovers of OLTL. Cole brought the hard headedness of his mother and the passionate anger and love of his father. And when the blackout was going on, and Cole escaped from prison, I pictured him face-to-face with the real Todd Manning.

'I'm Todd Manning, Starr's father. Who are you?'

'I'm Cole Thornhart, Starr's boyfriend, Hope's father. And I'm Patrick Thornhart and Marty Saybrooke's son.'

  10. I've seen quite a few grow up, have kids, become grandparents. Heck I'm a grandparent now as well. Been watch for around 46 years. Sure do miss OLTL. Feels odd only having 1 hour of soaps when I used to have so much more. I remember a time when they were on from 11-4. At least I still have my favorite, GH.
