Who Introduced You To Soap Operas?

Soap:  Another World

A girlfriend in high school introduced me to the wonderful world of soap operas with Another World.  I was hooked and watched the show into young adulthood.

Soap: All My Children

My future husband reintroduced me to the world of soap operas.  He was a devout fan of All My Children and Erica Kain along with another male friend.  I began catching the show with them, was hooked, and loved it.  My daughters grew up on All My Children and we all watched faithfully to the very last Disney/ABC episode.

  1. I was introduced to ABC Soaps by my Grandmother and Mother who have both passed away before AMC & OLTL were cancelled! As much as i miss them both I am glad they were not here to see the demise of the soaps they loved to watch daily!

  2. I was a teacher, and single mom to 4 little kids, so I never watched TV at all until I became disabled. I still wanted to give back, so I began visiting & caring for elderly people. I met the sweetest elderly man in the world named Gale Campbell. He did not have a single living relative. We became very close, & he called me his daughter. When he was sick, I stayed with him, and he never missed his "story." (AMC) That was in the late 90's, and I was hooked ever since. I still watch reruns on SoapNet, but since the nasty cancellations, I've branched out to others, & never miss GH. I'm also glad that Gale didn't have to see the cancellation of his beloved story. He watched it from its very beginning. God bless you, Daddy. RIP

  4. My Mom introduced me to soaps. As far back as I can remember the soaps have been on our TV during the day. She used to watch Secret Storm, As the World Turns, and GH. I got hooked watch GH with Mom, in the 60's somewhere. Then along came Dark Shadows, OLTL.

  6. My mom started me with General Hospital back in 1969. I followed it off and on as I could all thru high school. I got married during my senior year, and my mother-in-law got me hooked on Another World, just after Victoria Wyndham took on the role of Rachel. How I loved the triangle between Rachel, Alice and Steven! I found All My Children the summer after high school graduation. After a divorce and time in the Army, I returned to school, where my roommates hooked me up with One Life To Live. And on occasion, Days Of Our Lives. Now - there is only Days and GH left out of all those that I have watched over the years. Ever faithful!

  7. I loved Dark Shadows as a kid, I would race home from school to watch it.
In 1970 I started watching ABC soaps while I was recuperating from a bad accident that left me on crutches for a year. I was soon addicted. Those stories got me through the worst year of my life.
Since then I have watched, recorded and dvr'd. I even did my college term paper on the advertisers of soaps. (I have a PR degree) and I got an A+. I really miss AMC and OLTL. I really hope there is a chance they will bring them back.

  8. I guess that would be my mother, she would have it on while I sat on the floor playing with my toys. The ABC soaps AMC,OLTL and GH maybe Days but I didn't start watching that till the mid 80's as a teen /young adult Though I do remember a scene I now think is Days that I watched at around 6 or 7. It envolved a swing and a childs death I think.
